Kings IX Punjab Team News:
This a do or die match for Kings XI Punjab, who has been inconsistent this IPL. They failed to win matches in a row. However, their win against Mumbai and Kolkata has kept them alive to qualify for the Playoff. They have slight upper hand in regards to run rate. If Punjab wins this match they will qualify for the playoffs because of their positive run rate.
They have played better cricket in the last two matches. Their batsmen have contributed well with the bat. Their experiment of opening Wriddhiman Saha to open with Guptill has paid off. He played a brilliant knock of 55 ball 93. After Hashim Amla, the in-form batsman for Punjab left IPL due to International commitments, Captain himself has stepped up and played two valuable innings, scoring 44 and 47 respectively in last two matches.
The Indian all-rounder, Axar Patel, has been there for the team from the day one. He contributed well with bat and ball. He took regular wickets and played some value-added innings.
The bowling department has been the issue for Punjab. They haven’t been as consistent in this department. Their two Sharma’s, Sandeep and Mohit, were unable to keep it under control and went for an economy of 8.39 and 9.04 respectively.
The last match was a high scoring match. Kings XI Punjab made a huge score of 230, the highest of this year’s IPL. The promotion of Saha, as an opener, has paid out well for Kings XI Punjab. He scored a blistering 55 ball 93. Maxwell scored 21 ball 47, which included 5 sixes and 2 fours. This is the second time he has given his wicket in 40’s. They are still in hunt for a good bowling pair, which will give them strength to defend a low score too. Glen Maxwell has taken this responsibility into his hands to fill the gap in between overs.
